Hello! My name is Rachel Clark, I will graduate from Indiana University with both an elementary education and special education teacher's license as well as a license addition in reading assistance. I plan to be an advocate for integration of exceptional learners in the general education classroom as well as the acceptance of these learners among their peers.

Throughout my years at Indiana University, I have been educated on the integration of technology and one to one devices in the classroom and I plan to use technology in my classroom when appropriate, as I have found that it can often communicate with children in more effective ways and also allows for students and teacher to tailor the lesson to the individuals in the classroom.

Why do I want to be a teacher? As an educator, I want to remind the world that teaching is a passion, not just a paycheck. I believe that as a teacher, I will have the ability to make a positive impact on my community and the next generation of learners every day. Children are our nation’s future, and they need to be supplied with the best tools and information possible to assist them in leading a positive life. Personally, I hope to become a mentor to students who may not have positive influences at home while also promoting acceptance and understanding of exceptional learners. I want to help one learn to love reading and learning, regardless of what other children think. I want to be that light in the darkness, the person that a student can come to with any issue and know that there will always be a person there for them with no judgment, just help.

I am passionate about being involved in my community and volunteering whenever I can. Because of this, I am a part of Camp Kesem, an organization that raises money for and becomes camp counselors for children whose parents are suffering from cancer. I am also a part of IUDM, or Indiana University Dance Marathon, which raises money for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. I take part in the Student Council for Exceptional Children as well as the School of Education's Dean's Advisory Council to get involved in my personal community in the Indiana University School of Education.
